Old Man’s War by John Scalzi

I’m a big fan of Scalzi’s work and I actually really enjoyed this! It wasn’t along the lines of my typical read (what with all the aliens, war and, killing) but I thought it was great.
The plot was different and quick, making it easy to sit down and keep reading. The main character had a great snarky sense of humor (that I related to quite a bit!) and even with all the violence, I found myself laughing while reading this frequently. The book centers around the idea that we’ve formed a Colonial Union that is in charge of taking excess human population from Earth and establishing and protecting new colonies for these people in other parts of the galaxy. The whole process is quite secretive and the main character only learns about what’s happening after he voluntarily joins the Colonial military on his 75th birthday. The CU has found a way to use senior citizens as soldiers in their fight for colonization. There are crazy alien species, battle scenes, hilarity, and some gore all wrapped up in an intriguing sci-fi plot. I’m definitely going to read the next book in the series.
