The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
Rating: 4 out of 5
This was such an interesting book! The story is a lush, dreamy, violent, and romantic story based loosely on 1,001 Nights (aka Arabian Nights). A Caliph (king) marries and kills a new young girl each dawn. That is, until Shahrzad volunteers to be his next wife. Hellbent on revenge, she plots to murder Khalid. Surviving dawn after dawn she slowly finds there is more to Khalid than she ever thought.
I found the love story to be quite beautifully told in a star-crossed lover kind of way. The worldbuilding was complex and the reader is only starting to know the cast of characters by the end. The only thing I didn’t care for was the level of drama or that the characters’ reactions were sometimes over the top. With that cliffhanger I can’t wait until the next book comes out! -Reviewed by Kelsey
