My husband is a huge astronomy buff. He has let the kids stay up to until the wee hours of the morning to watch meteor showers, driven us miles to get the best view of a red moon, and has located stars for each of us that share our birthdays. So, needless to say this year’s eclipse is kind of a big deal for him and he has been planning for a decade!
When our daughter was ten years old, my husband asked her to sign a contract that said, wherever she was on August 21st, 2017, she would be with her family to watch the eclipse. He had to get it in writing because he knew that on that date she would be almost twenty years old and probably away somewhere for college. Being ten at the time, she willingly signed. Well, we of course are holding her and all her brothers to their promise and on Monday we will chase down this once in a life time event as a family!
