Mom and Dad Glue book cover

“My mom and dad are broken, I don’t know what to do. My mom and dad have come undone, I need to find some glue.”

My favorite children’s book this month is Mom and Dad Glue by Kes Gray. Written in rhyme, this is a brave and moving story of a very little boy whose parents are divorcing. It clearly depicts the heartbreak of believing it is up to him to save the people he loves, and discovering that he can’t, and no one can.

Anyone who has gone through divorce will resonate with the intensity of the feelings captured in this simple picture book. You have to read it through tears to get to the sunshine! I can’t imagine that it can be told without opening the way for meaningful conversation and empathy all around. It is cathartic and bold, and I suggest reading it with your partner before sharing it with your kids. Then grab some tissue and start to heal.

Teasing isn't funny book coverTeasing Isn’t Funny: What To Do About Emotional Bullying by Melissa Higgins.
Teasing isn’t Funny is a sweet picture book about what to do if you are being bullied, and how to help someone who is being bullied.

The book completely empathizes with the feelings and self-esteem of the child being picked on, and educates kids about what bullying is and how to get help as well as support. It is very informative, and yet truly a story–definitely shows, rather than just tells, what bullying means and how to survive it. Loved it!
