Gifts for Bibliomaniacs

Bibliomaniacs gifts

Lafayette Public Library is home (well, work-home) for those of us who LOVE books. In other words, bibliomaniacs. That said, of course we think books are the perfect gift for everyone on your list, and as a holiday treat for yourself (less fattening than cookies or lattes!).

Here are a few suggestions of books about books that you will enjoy giving (and peeking at before you wrap them).

The True Tails of Baker and Taylor: The Library Cats who left their Pawprints on a Small Town –and the World by Jan Louch
“It all started with mice in the library…In The True Tails of Baker and Taylor, Jan Louch looks back and tells the remarkable story of these two marvelous cats and the people–readers, librarians, and cat lovers of all ages–who came together around them. ” – from our catalog

Bookspeak! : Poems Written by and About Books by Laura Purdie Salas
“A collection of wacky, whimsical poems about books and all the treasures they contain. Each poem gives voice to a group that seldom gets a voice . . . the books themselves!” – from our catalog

The Card Catalog: Books, Cards, and Literary Treasures
“The Library of Congress brings booklovers an enriching tribute to the power of the written word and to the history of our most beloved books . . . this collection is a visual celebration of the rarely seen treasures in one of the world’s most famous libraries and the brilliant catalog system that has kept it organized for hundreds of years.” – from our catalog

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
“A gleeful and exhilarating tale of global conspiracy, complex code-breaking, high-tech data visualization, young love, rollicking adventure, and the secret to eternal life–mostly set in a hole-in-the-wall San Francisco bookstore.” – from our catalog

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
“A. J. Fikry, the irascible owner of Island Books, has recently endured some tough years. Over time, he has given up on people, and even the books in his store, instead of offering solace, are yet another reminder of a world that is changing too rapidly. Until a most unexpected occurrence gives him the chance to make his life over and see things anew. Gabrielle Zevin’s enchanting novel is a love letter to the world of books–an irresistible affirmation of why we read, and why we love.” – from our catalog

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Fahrenheit 451 is a short novel set in the (perhaps near) future when “firemen” burn books forbidden by the totalitarian “brave new world” regime. Today, when libraries and schools are still “burning” certain books, Fahrenheit 451 is a work of even greater impact and timeliness.” – from our catalog

And finally,  the Real Simple folks share a variety of unique, thoughtful items that complete any reading experience, novel products will delight the book-lovers and avid readers in your life.

Have fun shopping and reading – from your friendly bibliomaniacs.
