Lafayette Historic Newspapers – Online

The Lafayette News, October 4, 1902

The Archives at the Lafayette Public Library has exciting news! Several newspaper titles from early-20th-century Lafayette are now available online as part of the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection.

A service of the Colorado State Library, the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) currently includes more than 1,200,000 digitized pages, representing more than 250 individual newspaper titles published in Colorado,  primarily from 1859 to 1923. Lafayette newspapers were not previously represented in the collection.

The Lafayette Public Library Archives contains an extensive collection of newspapers on microfilm, dating back to 1901. The newspapers that have been digitized represent several titles, including The Lafayette News and The Lafayette Leader, and date from 1901 to 1907. The digitization effort was made possible by a grant from the Colorado State Library.

Now, rather than looking through endless reels of microfilm, a portion of our newspaper collection can be viewed from home and searched by keyword or browsed by date. Access to the CHNC database is free and can be gained through our website on the Lafayette History and Photos page. Our goal is to continue to digitize Lafayette’s historic newspapers in order to provide wider access and to make searching them more fruitful and efficient.

Check out the CHNC website at www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org or visit the library to view our newspapers on microfilm!
