Teen Talk with Renee: Test Prep Help!

Check out this letter from your Teen Services Librarian Renée! This week she is writing about how awesome you are and some helpful resources for the SAT and ACT.

Is it me or are the days starting to blur. In my house, we keep track of the days based on when it’s time to change our pj’s and take a shower (seriously people, if body odor is your social distancing strategy, it’s working!), and we measure the weeks by buzz cut growth. The only indication that it is a week day is the line of laptops at the kitchen table.

Three weeks into home learning and I think we are getting the hang of it. I haven’t had to wake up my teens once this week and so far not a single eye roll when I cheerfully sing “Time for school!”. This is huge, because it looks like this will be going on for some time.

So, good for you! You are doing it. Life has handed you lemons, and you have built the most amazing lemon aid stand! Of course instead of actual lemon aid, you’ve had to use some weird canned powdered stuff because that was all that was left at King Soopers (this is my metaphor for home learning) and you can’t actually sell your powdered lemon aid because of social distancing. But, if you could, you’d sell out because you are just that awesome!

Seriously, give yourself a high five, pat on the back, or do the floss. You are wrestling with something that no other living generation can lay claim to. My father’s generation claimed to walk ten miles to school (barefoot through twenty inches of snow and uphill both ways I might add!) and my generation’s struggle was solo T.V. dinners, but your generation will have bragging rights to all you sacrificed to the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020. Proms, graduation, teen shenanigans, and school as usual. I sincerely hope the schools will reschedule graduation and I encourage you and your friends to throw the most awesome post- stay at home prom ever. As far as teen shenanigans go, I have full confidence that will return to full force before many adults will want it.

As far as schooling, well home learning is the best we can do for awhile. To help you along the process I have some handy resources for you. If you have a research project or just need a little extra help, check out the Library’s Research Databases. Are you signed up to take an AP test this spring or planning on taking the SAT or ACT? Check out the handy AP test guides below and more! And remember, if you need extra help, ask. We all want you to succeed!

Good talk!

All the best,

Renée

Tip:

Before you get started, be sure to check with your school about their resources and the expected changes to test formats during the COVID-19 Health Emergency. These are great resources, but check carefully to be sure they work for you.

Also – check with your school about new access to free online tutoring. Some BVSD schools are offering 24/7 tutoring and test prep via various services.
