Even More Homework Help Resources

Our Homework Center Librarian Kate has come up with another list of useful resources you can access online from home…including how you can contact us with your homework questions!

“Don’t Panic!”  This advice figures prominently in the fictional travel guide, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, featured in the novel of the same title by Douglas Adams. It is also good advice for those of us supporting our children doing schooling from home, especially now that it has been formalized that Colorado students will finish the school year in this model.

For many parents helping their students, understanding the questions and associated terminology can be the most difficult part of an assignment. If this in an obstacle at your house, here are some suggestions!

– Kate

  • For elementary math, check out the parent support page for the curriculum used in BVSD schools. Choose the appropriate grade level(s) to see glossaries, background information for the lessons and other useful resources.
  • Phone a friend – Talk to a fellow parent, or have your student connect with a classmate to get another perspective. Two heads really are better than one in many cases!
  • Check in with the teacher – This is a new model for most instructors, and these are unusual times for everyone, but the teachers are invested in your child’s learning and wellbeing. They want to hear from you if they can support you and your student!
  • Email the Homework Center – We are not open for in-person help, but Kate will do her best to connect you within a couple of days with some approaches to try if you describe the question or confusion in your message.

Most importantly, remember to give yourself and your children space for the big emotions and unusual situations right now. As noted on the Boulder Valley Home Learning website, educators understand the need for grace and flexibility right now, and we should feel comfortable to do the same. -Kate
