Check out this letter from your Teen Services Librarian Renée! This week she is writing about the summer reading you may have put off!
Hello friends! It’s been awhile since we last talked. How are you? Are you enjoying your summer break? Are you finding ways to stay busy, stay safe, and stay connected with friends? We’ve had to make some adjustments to our usual summer routine, but overall I think we have made the most of our summer break. I didn’t get my chicken coop, but my teens have been working hard on a landscaping project specifically designed to keep them occupied! When not shoveling rock and dirt, they have enjoyed playing in creeks, SUPing, longboarding and making music.
With more of us around more often, we find ourselves having more frequent conversations and discussions. This has been a highlight for me. There has been much to discuss this summer and I enjoy hearing everyones perspective on current issues. I have learned a lot from my teens.
The start of the school year has been our more recent topic of conversation. This past week we have talked a lot about school – what school might look like this fall, what concerns we all have, how we can best manage the situation, and HAVE YOU DONE YOUR SUMMER READING?! This last subject made their jaws drop and eyes roll. If you are at all like my teens, you may have thought a pandemic put an end to homework over the summer. Yes, times are crazy and unpredictable, but NOT summer reading. You can always count on a summer reading list! Lucky for my teens, I know that summer reading lists exists, I know where they can find these lists, and I know how they can get their hands on a book or two – STAT! And lucky for you, now you will too!
Some of our local schools just ask that you read 2-3 books over the summer, while some have lists. Here are some local school lists:
How do you get your mitts on a book with the Library closed? Scroll through our online catalog, put your book on hold, and give our curbside pickup a go!
Times are stressful enough–your summer reading shouldn’t be. These lists have a little bit of everything – you’re sure to find something that interests you, or at least a quick read! And hey, one positive we have found with all fall learning plans, another week to enjoy summer – or to get that reading done!
