Your Library Story: Through good times and bad

To me and my family, the library is so much more than the amazing librarians and the carefully cultivated collection of books. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the librarians, all the staff, and definitely the books. But what the library means to us goes beyond that.

It is a safe, welcoming place we can always rely on. The library has been there for us through good times and bad. My son and I have spent
leisurely afternoons browsing around and reading. We have attended wonderful magic shows, LEGO events, Hackerspace Tuesdays, watched short films about the history of Lafayette and many other wonderful events. The library has also been there for us and helped us through tough times.

Just this week we had our electricity shut off thanks to a series of unfortunate events. We were having a terrible, horrible, no good very bad day. Naturally, we went to the library. I was able to charge my phone and make the calls I needed to fix the situation. We escaped the heat. My son signed up for the summer reading program, and we happily ran into a favorite staff member from his elementary school. Most importantly, just being at the library that we love was exactly what we needed.

It is a safe, happy place to us. Thank you for always being there for us and so many others in our wonderful Lafayette community.
