In this week’s Teen Talk, Renée shares random dessert factoids as well as book picks contributed by Lafayette Library teen volunteers!
Yes, you read that correctly, it’s National Banana Pudding Lovers Month – and if you are a banana pudding lover, this month is for you! I know November is mostly known for the consumption of a large bird native to the Americas, but the way I see it, 2020 has been a year like no other – why not focus on the lesser, but for some, just as delicious, banana pudding.

Created by the Rodgers’ Pudding company in Chesapeake, Virginia, Banana Pudding Lovers Month gives all of us an opportunity to pay tribute to the only pudding flavor that can give plain ol’ chocolate a run for its money. Besides being tasty and satisfying, banana pudding has a surprisingly rich history in this country — and enough fans to support an annual two-day National Banana Pudding Festival and Cook-Off. So as you ramp up to Thanksgiving, treat yourself throughout November to this delectable dish.
Of course, November is also the month in which we celebrate all we have to be thankful for – family and friends, health and happiness, bananas and pudding. I can’t remember the last time I had banana pudding, but as I type this and think about that creamy concoction (do I dare say healthy?!), I can’t help but think that banana pudding is a great metaphor for life and thankfulness.
Vanilla pudding is frankly just ok, but you add bananas and some ‘Nilla Wafers, and BAM!, you have a dessert worthy of a whole month of celebration. Life can be just ok, but you add adventures, friends, some dessert, a good book, and BAM!, you have a full life in which to be thankful. Right now I am especially thankful to the teens who reach out to me, even though they have a gazillion other things going, on to send me book reviews. You are AWESOME!

I have a review of a book that I read recently! The book is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I recommend it to other teens because not only is a gripping book, but it has fantastic world and character building, and is incredibly well written with great diction and can be a nice challenging read for many people.

My book review is about Gone by Michael Grant. This is a great book for teens/or people who love a good science fiction novel. It has a great plot and I really enjoyed reading it!

I recommend Most Likely by Sarah Watson. This book is about four girls that are best friends. One of them will grow up to be president, but which one? A great story of friendship.
