- Asparagus, Eggs & French Dressing, page 164. This is a deliciously fresh and surprisingly easy to prepare salad.
Madhur Jaffrey’s Instantly Indian Cookbook by Madhur Jaffrey
- Chickpeas in a Gingery Tomato Sauce, page 24. These bright and flavor-packed chickpeas can be a side dish, or as a main course with rice.
The Official Downton Abbey Cookbook by Annie Gray
- Choose from “upstairs” or “downstairs” recipes depending on your style. For a hearty breakfast, try the Toad-In-The-Hole recipe on page 216.
The Bare Bones Broth Cookbook: 125 Gut-Friendly Recipes to Heal, Strengthen and Nourish the Body by Katherine and Ryan Harvey
- This book has some excellent breakfast and brunch recipes. Try the Butternut Squash Biscuits and Sausage Gravy on page 84.
Nothing Fancy: Unfussy Food for Having People Over by Alison Roman
- It’s difficult to pick favorites from this cookbook because there are so many tasty recipes. But a definite go-to is the Smashed Sweet Potatoes with Maple and Sour Cream on page 136. Vietnamese Food Any Day: Simple Recipes for True, Fresh Flavors by Andrea Nguyen
- The Char Siu Chicken on page 97 is savory but sweet. What I like about this recipe is its’ versatility. Serve it as the main dish, slice it for a bahn mi sandwich, or chop it up and toss it in a soup.
Food Truck Road Trip: A Cookbook by Kim Pham and Philip Shen
- Sweet Potato Grits with Vegetable Ragu and Red Pepper Romesco, page 96. This is definitely a vegetarian comfort food.
See You on Sunday: A Cookbook for Family and Friends by Sam Sifton
- A great cold-weather favorite for the whole family is the good old-fashioned Spaghetti Bolognese on page 166.
Once Upon a Chef: The Cookbook by Jennifer Segal

Baking at Republique: Masterful Techniques and Recipes by Margarita Manzke
- What makes this cookbook special is learning about the author and baker’s technique. I learned a great deal about quality ingredients, a different baking approach, and numerous tips for better baking. Try the Chocolate-Pistachio Biscotti on page 177. It’s easier than you think!
